A Prophetic Word for a Year of the Sword and Supernatural Rest
I don’t know about you, but the last several years have felt like a lot.
A lot of waiting.
A lot of stretching.
A lot of doing the right thing without immediately seeing the fruit.
There have been prayers we have prayed for years, battles we thought would be over by now, and seasons where God seemed to be doing His deepest work somewhere beneath the surface.
Hidden.
Quiet.
Unseen.
And exhausting.
But as we prepare to enter the Hebrew year 5787 at sundown on September 11, 2026, I believe we are standing at a significant transition point.
The word I keep coming back to is rest.
Not the kind of rest that comes because there is nothing left to do. Not avoidance, passivity, or pretending the battle isn’t real.
This is supernatural rest.
The kind that comes when God steps into the battle and reminds us that the outcome was never resting entirely on our shoulders.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not pushing harder.
It is knowing when to stop striving.
From the Hook to the Sword
The Hebrew year 5787 is written תשפ״ז.
We are still in the decade of Pey, פ, the Hebrew letter associated with the mouth. Since 5780, there has been a strong emphasis on words, prayer, declaration, truth, and the responsibility we carry for what comes out of our mouths.
In 5786, the final letter was Vav (ו), meaning a hook, nail, or connector.
Last year, I wrote about the importance of treading lightly with our words. The hook could gather or scatter. Our words could connect heaven and earth, draw people toward God, and bring healing. Or they could deepen division and pull people apart.
Now the final letter changes.
The seven in 5787 corresponds to the Hebrew letter Zayin, ז.
Zayin is an interesting letter because it carries what might seem like two opposing pictures.
It represents a sword or weapon.
But it is also connected with nourishment, provision, and rest.
A sword and sustenance.
Warfare and Sabbath.
Authority and dependence.
At first, those things may not seem to belong together.
But perhaps that is the point.
We are entering a year in which God is teaching us to carry a sword without living in a constant state of war.
The Year of the Sword
The shape of Zayin resembles a sword, with a handle at the top and a downward-pointing blade. It can also resemble a crowned sceptre, a symbol of authority and governance.
For this reason, many prophetic teachers are describing 5787 as the year of the sword.
I believe we will see God cut through things that have remained tangled for far too long.
Deception.
Confusion.
Delay.
Compromise.
Entrenched patterns.
Spiritual resistance.
Arguments and lies that have set themselves against the knowledge of God.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” – 2 Corinthians 10:4
But we need to understand what spiritual strongholds are.
They are not always people standing in our way or circumstances refusing to cooperate. Paul describes strongholds as arguments, pretensions, and thoughts that resist the truth of God.
Sometimes the first thing the sword cuts through is not something around us.
It is something within us.
A belief we have carried that God never gave us.
A fear that has made too many decisions on our behalf.
A wound that quietly became part of our identity.
A habit of striving because we are afraid everything will fall apart if we stop holding it together.
The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. It separates truth from deception. It exposes what has been hidden. It brings clarity where confusion has lingered.
God does not swing His sword carelessly.
He cuts to free.
When God Enforces His Will
I have seen the phrase “God is enforcing His will” used repeatedly in prophetic words about 5787.
That is strong language.
It does not mean we get everything we want. It does not mean every difficult person disappears, every prayer is answered exactly as we imagined, or every battle ends according to our timetable.
God enforcing His will means that what He has established cannot be overturned by human resistance.
His purposes stand.
His Word does not return empty.
What He has planted will not remain buried forever.
There are things God has spoken that have seemed delayed, opposed, or hidden. We may have wondered whether we heard Him correctly because the circumstances looked nothing like the promise.
But delay is not always denial.
Hiddenness is not abandonment.
And silence does not mean God has stopped working.
I believe 5787 will be a year when God brings some long-standing matters into alignment with His purposes. What has resisted movement may suddenly shift. What has remained unclear may become unmistakable. Doors that human effort could not force may open through God’s authority.
Not because we pushed harder.
Because the appointed time arrived.
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come.” – Habakkuk 2:3
A Year Enclosed by Rest
There is something particularly beautiful about the calendar of 5787.
It will be the longest possible Hebrew year, a leap year of 385 days. That equals exactly 55 weeks.
It begins with Shabbat.
And it ends with Shabbat.
The entire year is enclosed by rest.
I don’t think we should rush past that.
We live in a culture that celebrates exhaustion. Even in the church, we can confuse being overwhelmed with being faithful. We push through, hold everything together, and keep saying yes because we are convinced it all depends on us.
But Sabbath tells a different story.
Sabbath says God is still God when we stop.
The world continues turning.
The promise remains secure.
The work of God does not collapse because we took our hands off it long enough to breathe.
Supernatural rest does not mean there will be no work to do in 5787. Rest is not the absence of responsibility.
It is the absence of striving.
It is obedience without panic.
Movement without desperation.
Warfare without fear.
It is the settled confidence that God is already present in the place we are trying so hard to reach.
The End of a Long Battle
I believe some battles are coming to an end.
I say that carefully because I do not want to offer a shallow promise to someone who has been waiting a long time.
We see through a glass dimly. Prophetic words should always lead us back to Scripture and into conversation with God, rather than becoming formulas we use to control the future.
But I sense a genuine shift.
For some, the battle will end because circumstances change.
For others, the battle will end because its power over you is broken.
The situation may not disappear immediately, but it will no longer control your peace, define your identity, or dictate your next step.
You will stop fighting for something God has asked you to release.
You will stop carrying a responsibility He never assigned to you.
You will stop rehearsing the argument in your mind.
You will stop trying to convince people who have already decided to misunderstand you.
You will stop calling anxiety “discernment” and exhaustion “faithfulness.”
That is a victory too.
Maybe the battle does not always end when everything around us changes.
Maybe sometimes it ends when something within us finally does.
Sustained for What Comes Next
Zayin is not only connected with the sword. It is also connected with sustenance and nourishment.
The God who calls us into battle is the same God who prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies.
He does not merely command us to stand.
He sustains us while we do.
Provision in 5787 may not always look like abundance arriving all at once. It may look more like manna, exactly what is needed for the day in front of us.
Enough wisdom for the decision.
Enough strength for the conversation.
Enough courage for the next step.
Enough grace to release what is finished.
Enough peace to stop forcing what God has not asked us to carry.
The promise is not that we will never feel stretched.
The promise is that we will be sustained.
The Posture for 5787
So how do we enter this year?
We carry the sword of the Spirit, but we do not become combative.
We speak truth, but we do not use truth as a weapon against people.
We stand in authority, but we remain submitted to God.
We expect movement, but we refuse to manufacture it.
We work when He says work.
We wait when He says wait.
We release when He says the season is finished.
And we rest, knowing that what God has promised does not depend on our ability to control every outcome.
I believe 5787 is a year when the battle shifts.
God is cutting through deception, dismantling strongholds, and bringing long-standing matters into alignment with His purposes. Some things that have remained hidden will come into the light. Some battles that have consumed years of prayer and energy will lose their hold.
But the defining message of the year is not simply warfare.
It is rest.
In 5787, God is teaching His people to carry the sword without surrendering the Sabbath. To stand firmly in truth while living from rest, remembrance, and dependence upon Him.
The battle belongs to the Lord.
You are allowed to lower your shoulders.
A Prayer for 5787
Father, as we enter this new year, teach us how to live from Your rest.
Cut through every lie, fear, distraction, and stronghold that has kept us from walking freely with You. Bring clarity where there has been confusion and movement where there has been resistance.
Show us which battles are ours to fight and which ones we were never meant to carry.
Place Your Word firmly within us. Teach us to speak truth with courage and grace. Let our words agree with heaven rather than echoing the fear and hostility around us.
Where we have been striving, teach us to trust.
Where we have grown weary, sustain us.
Where we have remained faithful in hidden places, remind us that nothing surrendered to You has been wasted.
Bring Your purposes into alignment in our lives, our families, our churches, and our communities. Complete what You have begun, in Your way and in Your time.
May we enter 5787 carrying the sword of the Spirit, governed by Your authority and enclosed by Your rest.
