I believe in the prophetic. God still speaks today through His Word, His Spirit, and His people. The office of the prophet, the gift of prophecy, and prophetic insight are not things I take lightly. They help shape how I see the world. I deeply believe that nothing happens by accident. For everything that happens in life has a season, a purpose and a right time under Heaven. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Long before “word of the year” posts filled social media, I was looking at the Hebrew calendar to understand each year’s deeper meaning. The numbers, the letters, and the way Scripture ties them together reveal God’s timing and direction. Here on my Shasher’s Life blog, I’ve shared prophetic reflections similar to this one for over a decade (the last post was the year of transitions). This practice isn’t about popularity or being trendy. It’s about listening, discerning, and sharing what I sense God is saying.
The World We’re Living In
Right now, everywhere you look, there’s division. Anger boils over. Lines are drawn. People are quick to take sides, both inside and outside of Christianity. We live in a time when opinions have become weapons, and words cut deeper than ever.
In light of this, the prophetic word for the Hebrew year 5786 (beginning at sundown on September 22, 2025, with Rosh Hashanah) is sobering and timely: Tread Lightly With Your Words.
This is not at all about being silent. It’s about being prayerful and Spirit-led in what you do say. Words bring life, or they bring death (Proverbs 18:21). They can heal or divide. They can open doors for God’s purposes or slam them shut.
The Decade of the Mouth and the Year of the Hook
Some background helps here: The Hebrew calendar is different from ours. Its numbers are also letters, and each one carries a picture and meaning. That means every year, and even every decade, has prophetic layers.
Right now, we are in the decade of the mouth (5780–5789), connected to the Hebrew letter Pey (פ). This decade emphasizes the power of words: prayer, prophecy, declaration, and the weight of what comes out of our mouths.
Within that decade, 5786 is called the year of the Hook, tied to the Hebrew letter Vav (ו). Vav means hook or nail. It represents connection… joining heaven and earth, linking people together, like the hook of a fisherman, as in Jesus’ words: “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).
Together, these truths carry a strong call for this year: Your mouth is your hook. What you speak will either gather people into God’s kingdom or scatter them further away.
The Courts Are Seated
In this next year, the courts of heaven are convened, and judgment is pronounced. Every prayer, vow, and confession matters. Scripture warns, “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it” (Ecclesiastes 5:4–7). Jesus made it plain: “Let your ‘Yes’ be yes and your ‘No,’ no” (Matthew 5:33–37).
In today’s world, words are often thrown around like grenades on social media or in heated conversations. They wound, divide, and destroy. But heaven is listening. Every prayer, every declaration, and every casual remark is recorded (Matthew 12:36). Your words are not wasted. They are either building or breaking, planting or uprooting, blessing or cursing.
The hook in our hand reminds us that every conversation, whether gentle or firm, is meant to gather and reconcile, not to scatter or humiliate. We are called to speak truth boldly, but also to season it with grace (Colossians 4:6).
Expansion and Multiplication
Isaiah 54:2–3 gives us a picture of what God is doing: “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch out your curtains, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.” In this next year, expansion will come. Growth, fruitfulness, and provision will be released. Places that looked barren will begin to blossom again.
But growth without stability is fragile.
Division weakens the stakes of the tent. Anger and pride erode the foundation. For the blessing of God to endure, we need humility, integrity, and unity. Strengthening the stakes means deepening our roots in prayer, building trust with one another, and holding firm to God’s word in a season where everything else feels shaken.
Expansion is promised, but it must be stewarded wisely.
The Hook in Hand
The Hebrew letter Vav (6) is shaped like a hook. It points to both harvest and warfare.
Jesus said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). It is God who places the hook in our hand. On one side, it is for gathering, for drawing people into His kingdom. On the other, Job 41:1–2 reminds us that the hook is also for confronting Leviathan, a symbol of chaos, pride, and resistance.
We live in a divided world, like a stormy sea. The hook is not for arguments or tearing down, but for reaching out. It is for evangelism, for reconciliation, for gathering people when everything else tries to scatter them. Expect both opportunities to win hearts and moments of spiritual battle. The same hook God gives us for harvest will also be used to confront forces that try to divide and destroy.
Communion Like Enoch
Enoch’s life paints a prophetic picture for us. “Enoch had such a close and intimate relationship with God that one day he just vanished; God took him” (Genesis 5:24). He lived in violent, divided days before the flood, yet his steady walk of faith set him apart.
Hebrews 11 reminds us that Enoch pleased God because of his faith. Jude 1 warns us that judgment comes against ungodly words and deeds. In a time of division, Enoch’s story shows us the way forward: communion with God anchors everything.
When the noise of division grows louder, walking with God keeps us steady. When anger presses in, intimacy with Him keeps us clear. Without communion, expansion collapses and words become empty. With communion, faith produces fruit, words carry life, and barren places become fruitful.
A Word for Our Time
- The courts are seated. Every word matters.
- Expansion is here. But unity must hold the stakes.
- The hook is in hand. Use it to gather, not to fight.
- Communion is the anchor. Walk with God like Enoch.
5786 / 2026 is a year to tread lightly with your words. Choose speech that heals, not divides. Choose to build, not tear down. Walk in intimacy with God, and you will see barren places blossom into new life.
This prophetic word is not abstract. It speaks directly into the world we’re living in… divided, angry, quick to take sides. This is a reminder that our words carry weight. They can either join the noise of hostility or align with heaven’s purposes.
Expansion is coming. Fruitfulness is promised. But those things will only stand if our foundations are strengthened by unity and integrity. The hook God has placed in our hands is not for pulling each other apart, but for drawing people closer to Him.
Like Enoch, we are called to walk steadily with God in a shaken world. To live by faith when fear and conflict press in. To please Him, not the crowd.
It’s time to pause and reflect: what words have shaped your life this past year? As we step into 5786, ask God how He wants to shape your words for healing, unity, and fruitfulness. I’d love you to share with me what He’s stirring in you. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I share this prophetic word with humility, knowing that “we see through a glass dimly” (1 Corinthians 13:12). My desire is that it stirs you to seek God for yourself, to test everything against His Word, and to hold fast to what is good.
* The Numbers in 5786
In Hebrew, numbers also function as letters, each with its own meaning. Together, they give more depth to the year 5786:
- Yod (10): The hand or arm of God. It speaks of His presence, His work, and completeness.
- Kaf (20): The palm. It symbolizes blessing, provision, and receiving what God gives.
- Vav (6): A hook or nail. It points to connection. Heaven and earth joined. And also to the hook of evangelism: fishers of men.
Put together, 10 × 2 + 6 shows us God’s hand stretched out in blessing, heaven and earth linked, and the hook placed in our hands. It’s a reminder that 5786 is a year of communion, expansion, and accountability.
