One more weekend closer to Christmas, time is a ticking!! Today in church we did something very impromtu and out of the norm. The Sunday school kids planned something very special for their class, it was Missions Sunday. Each child could pick a country and talk about the Christmas traditions experienced there. Those who wanted to participate would then share in front of each other, which I thought was great, but… even better was for them to share in front of the entire congregation.

I phoned one of the Sunday school co-ordinators last night and made the suggestion. The kids would run the service. I then quickly called the families to make sure the kids were prepared. It worked out so well, it was wonderful.

My daughter Em and her friend shared on the Christmas traditions of Japan. My son Q and his friend told us all about Guyana’s festivities. A couple of others talked about China, and Guatemala, Germany, Italy and Canada. They did such a great job! I am so impressed by the kids in our church. It actually inspired some of the adults to share about their Christmas traditions in their home town ~ from memories of Christmas in Switzerland, to Malaysia to the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland. It was a great way to get a quick glance around the world. We put a lot of emphasis on the world with our kids, at home and at church. We want them to have a global view and one day… we know we will be sending some of them abroad.

Christmas in my home update: We decorated the tree!! My good friends, the Redheads, dropped by on Saturday with a bag of Christmas lights! With the 1 box of decorations that I did manage to find and the new lights… it looks pretty!! My hubby is pretty much up-and-at-em and this week he will put together the kitchen cabinets and call the electrical inspector and set up the living room around the Christmas tree. YEAH… I’m getting giddy!!
