Please welcome Nolie to officially becoming a true blogging momma… she posted for the first time about poop. I’m sure we’ve all been there.

The dreaded potty training days…

I have 4 kids, and each of them were vastly different when it came it training. Some were easy and one… well — I didn’t think he would ever wear underwear!!

What were/are your experiences?

My first was trained just 2 weeks before his 2nd birthday. We bribed him, he asked for a skateboard, we said yes “but only if you go on the potty”! He was trained in a day – no joke! And then the toilet seat pinched his little tush and it took us 6 months to get him back on the potty.

My 2nd child (my only girl) was poop-trained by 18 months – all on her own – but she enjoyed a good pee in her freshly changed diaper. She reminded me of my cat – whenever I changed the kitty litter he’d come in a mess it all up! She finally got the hang of it just after she was 2.

My 3rd child… a different story completely! We were still trying with him after his 3rd birthday! We’d talk all the time about pooping in the potty and how gross it was in your diaper and he’d reply, “I like it”. My bro-in-law picked him up, smelled his diaper and said, “EWWW!!” to which Li Li responded… “Lick it!”. I would say to him, “Do you want to go on the potty today?” and he quip back, “ummm, today’s not a good day” so yah…. some time before he was 3 1/2 he was finally trained ’cause he couldn’t go to preschool until he was.

My 4th… I don’t remember. WOW!… it’s amazing how fuzzy the details get the more kids you have. He was closer to 3 than 2 though… I think… Do any of my friends remember? LOL

Oh well – he’s 4 now and thank goodness I’m done with diapers!

Now if I could just get the new puppy to stop pooping on my carpet!

  1. Ohmygoodness. I feel your pain! My youngest is 4 and he was AWFUL! He would hide in the closet and poop his undies. And just never use the toilet except to peepee. On his birthday, since I said he wouldn't turn 4 because 4 yr olds don't poop their pants, he'd have to stay 3, he started going. I thought we were through, that I was home free. Um… no. He had to get his 4 yr shots about 2 weeks ago and that kid has completely stopped going in the toilet!!!! **runs away screaming**

So… I am so with you there. We homeschool, and I am telling you, boarding school for preschoolers has never sounded so sweet!

  2. I am in the midst of training…I THINK we're at the tale end with trainer #1. He turned 3 in March and we tried once before he was 3 and it was a NO-GO! They're all different that's for sure…you're not the first person though who has said after awhile you don't remember…I find that hard to believe right now! 🙂

  3. Get the puppy some diapers then teach him how it's less messy and doesn't stick to his hair when he goes outside instead of in the diaper 😉

  4. We're in the middle of potty training now. We're staying home all weekend to try to get out of Pull Ups. Evan would rather pee in his Pull Up than stop and go pee. Today he's in his Diego underwear and we'll se how it goes. Wish us luck! I'm hoping he's trained before he is supposed to start preschool in September.

  5. We wait a while for C. Friend of ours with a child the same age had tried early and it had backfired a bit. So we wait…and then one day around 2&1/2 she said she wanted to wear underwear because all the other kids were at daycare. It was really easy cause she was ready. Although we did go through a phase where poop accidents were happening way too many times.

  6. When my oldest was 1 years old, I was pregnant with his brother and having him 4 months later. So, when the oldest turned one, I just took him off the bottle and told him were he had to do his business. He just did it. Thank goodness. I only wanted to have one in diapers and on the bottle. The second boy was a whole other story. He took his sweet old time. Really, he did. lol

  7. LOL, our little one goes pee on the potty about twice per day. I just need to train her already…mommy is slacking on this one 🙂

  9. HA! Isnt that right. Our short term memory goes.

Yes, I asked my 2 year old on sunday if he wanted to sit on the potty and he told me:

No I got pee pee on potty.

YEP. He was afraid he'd pee in it.
