So far, in part 1, I blogged about the importance of staying focused and in part 2, a testimony of a miracle we experienced because we stayed focused. I want to share now the first of 4 keys on HOW we stay focused in this life.

#1) Stay in the Word

Acts 20:32, “Which is able to build you up, it’s the Word of God that makes you strong.”
The Word of God to you is like Spinach to Popeye. It’s food for the spirit which brings strength to your whole being. The Word of God is to the spirit what food is to the natural.

You need to make a point to be in the Word – daily – whether that is one verse or an entire chapter. Whether you read it curled up on a chair or on your laptop at the kitchen table. Whether you listen to it through your iPod or by Bible on Tape. Every day, you need to make it a habit to hear God’s Word.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word! If you want your Faith muscles to be built up, you need to do the work. It doesn’t happen through osmosis – the information will not magically leak out from the pages into your heart. You need to take the Word and put it into you.

When you’re reading, make note of the verses that “stand out” or “speak” to you. Mark them in your Bible (yes, it’s OK to write in the Good Book), or write them in a journal or notebook. From time to time, go back to them and review them, remind yourself of what God was speaking to you about during that time in your life.

Focus on a Scripture verse until you know it inside and out. Pretty soon, you’ll have it memorized. Putting God’s Word into your heart is very important. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might so we can be strong enough to stand against the enemy.”

Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.

If you want not to get distracted during trials and tribulations, be in a place where you stand strong and where you stay focused and win… you need to be a people of the Word. The bottom line is that in order for a victorious life, you need to stay in the Word!
