We have been camping at Muskoka Bible Centre on Mary Lake for well over a decade.

We’ve been there in the summer and even in the winter. Our 3rd child took his first steps there. Our daughter beat my butt in a game of UNO when she was 3.5 years old there. We’ve camped in the extreme heat and in the pouring rain. We camped there right after the Northeast Black-Out in August 2003, the Brown-Out’s kept us busy with candles and flashlights. We have escaped there for family reunions and weekend retreats with my girlfriends. We’ve taken friends and our church there for years.

We’ve always just arrived, had fun, packed up and left it all behind, a week at a time, summer after summer.

I’ve always wanted a more permanent way to enjoy the Muskokas. And now we can…

I was up there a few weeks ago with two of my sister-in-law’s. 2 out of 4 kids were with me. One kid was at Ontario Pioneer Camp just down the road and one kid was with my husband. The men, which included one brother-in-law, were on a manly canoe/portage trek through Temagami. While they rowed and camped and rowed some more… for 120 klms all together… I was sitting pretty, enjoying a fire-free, fire-ban week at MBC.
The day before we were to leave, my friend Julie told me about a trailer that she had seen with a “FREE” sign made out of cardboard on it. I immediately went over to check it out. A lovely older lady, who was busy knitting socks and was done with camping year after year, wanted a good family for her trailer to go to, “would you like it?” in a soft fragile voice she asks.
UMMMM yah!!!

Of course I couldn’t reach my husband, he was in a cell-free zone {this is why I don’t go on these canoe trips} and it wasn’t technically a large purchase so I said YES and filled out the paperwork. Dave popped in on his way out of the woods and told the campground staff that we were happy to accept our new Summer home. Now, it’s in need of a little TLC but nothing a lot of paint and some elbow grease won’t cure. The ideas of what we’re going to do are flowing…

We’re looking forward to next Summer, I’ll be spending it with my kids in a 12’x24′ wide trailer!

Now you should ask me about the dream I had the night leading up to this… about the little magical creature hiding in the lining of my patchwork coat of many colours… 🙂
