Last week I was invited to attend a VIP screening of the latest Kendrick Brothers production, their sixth film… The “Overcomer” Movie opens nationwide on August 23rd, 2019. The Kendrick Brothers’ notable work over the last 15+ years includes faith-based films such as; War Room, Fireproof, and Facing the Giants.

Priscilla C. Shirer and Alex Kendrick are back, starring together in “Overcomer.” This film is based on finding your identity in God. It has a great story of redemption and the Gospel message is crystal clear.

Premise: John Harrison (Alex Kendrick) is a high school basketball coach whose state championship dreams vanish when he receives some unexpected news. Meanwhile, the largest manufacturing plant in his town closes, and he questions what his and his family’s future will be. John agrees to take a job as a cross-country coach, and, inspired by a friend’s prayers, decides to help one of the least likely athletes win the biggest race of the year.” {Quote: Wikipedia}

“Overcomer” asks the question: what do you allow to define you? Without giving away too many details… one line that stood out to me, “Your identity is in what your heart is in.”

Knowing your identity and where it is rooted, is vital. As a believer and a follower of Jesus, knowing that in Christ I am: Blessed, Chosen, Adopted, Redeemed, Forgiven, Sealed, Loved, Saved, God’s Child. Ephesians 1 & 2. I can’t wait to show off the T-Shirt I won at the VIP screening!

“Overcomer” will inspire you to dream and maybe even help you reevaluate who you think you are. I laughed, cheered, cried, and took notes for the next sermon I preach at church. It’s a great, feel-good, family friendly movie. I am thinking about having our church buy out the theatre and use it as an opportunity to reach out and witness to our community about the hope we have in Christ.

Look for it in theatres near you on August 23rd!  Go to OverComerMovie.com to book group tickets.
