At night the sky is all lit up and there’s a smoky but sweet aroma in the air.
The cane is on fire.

Don’t worry, it’s a controlled burn. The purpose for this… to make it easier for harvesting but another benefit is quickly realized. It also protects the workers from snakes and other animals (I heard their sugar cane rats are the size of small dogs) that would normally hide in the fields.

Our God is a consuming fire! When we go into this world with Him having gone before us, the harvest is much easier and we are protected from things that would want to get in our way and harm us. We cannot do this thing called life without Christ and we cannot excel in our Christian walk without the Fire of the Lord burning in our lives. I want to be ablaze not to just smell of smoke…

Deuteronomy 9:3, “Know therefore this day that the Lord your God is He Who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall dispossess them and make them perish quickly, as the Lord has promised you.”
