Today my son graduated from Grade 6!

I used to be “that Mom” who made fun of people who made such a big deal out of a graduation ceremony that was anything other than Grade 12. It probably stems from my childhood and going to a school where everyone from Kindergarden to Grade 12 was in the same small building. In some of the schools… we could all fit on the same school bus. The only graduation ceremony I ever experienced was when I was finally done High School.

Anyway…. as of a couple of weeks ago… I became “that Mom” who made a big deal of their kid’s little milestones. A couple of weeks ago, I was about to decide to pull the kids out of school early so we could continue camping (we just came back from a camping weekend with our Church) but my son’s teacher told me that I had to have Q at school. When she told me why…. I was soooo excited but I had to keep it a secret!  Do you know how HARD that was?! I did tell a few people but they were sworn to secrecy, I was just brimming with excitement and pride (don’t worry, the good kind)!

Q won the Leadership Medal, it was presented to him by our local MP (Member of Parliament) where he also received a congratulatory certificate from our Country’s Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Stephen Harper.
In September, he is off to a new school. Grade 7. That’s Junior High people!! I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. It’s been nice having all 4 of the kids in the same elementary school. In September he will be all alone, in a new school. I know he takes with him many very good friends but it is still Junior High. I remember Grade 7 well…. many things changed that year for me. Q is still very innocent. I love that. I want to protect that.
I think we’ve done a good job to this point if I do say so myself! 🙂 One of my favourite Scriptures, that I pray over my kid frequently and often while wagging a finger at them and shouting, “My children will rise up and call their Mother blessed!” Proverbs 31:28. They do this in a lot of ways – from attitude to actions – in the choices they make to the words they use. I believe, my children are doing this in spades.

Well-trained children are the best proof of the reality of our Faith to an unbelieving world!

Congratulations Q! We are very proud of you!! You are a leader. God told us that before you were born. 1 Kings 5:7, “…Blessed be the Lord this day, Who has given David a wise son to be over this great people.” This was the Scripture God gave your Daddy when you were fresh in my womb, it became the anchor we held onto when going through the tough times during your development in my belly. We clung to the promise God gave us about you. Remember that God has great plans for you, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your path.
