A few weeks ago I did what I haven’t done for a very long time… I camped! Like in a tent, slept on the ground, swatted at the bugs, didn’t shower for days, camped!

K, saying that out-loud makes me sound like a diva or something but once all my kids came along, camping was too tough for me and so I gave up.

When my husband needed another female chaperone for the church youth camping trip – I was it! I was voluntold…

We have some pretty amazing kids in our church so it wasn’t hard to want to hang out with them, doing so at the beach was even better. The weather couldn’t have been better, a little hot (43C / 110F) one day but that made the trip into Grand Bend for ice cream all the more perfect.

We spent Sunday to Wednesday at the Pinery Provincial Park on Lake Huron. Nine tents, three hammocks, two BBQ’s, several coolers and dozens of camping chairs all dotted the group site on the dunes.

Many of the kids brought their bikes and had quite the adventures riding for miles and miles on trails through the park. We were within walking distance of the fabulous beach.  They went for early morning swims, all day swims and even some sunset dips.

One night we laid out on the beach at 11:30pm {it was still 30C/86F} and watched for shooting stars. At last count we saw 12 or so… it was amazing!

By the end of our time… I was actually wishing for more. My entire family went, two of our kids are in youth and I brought along the youngest two, even my niece from British Columbia joined us.

This was my first time back to the Pinery since we were first married and I was impressed that they’ve really spruced up the place.  Maybe camping isn’t so bad after all…

  6. I totally love camping at the Pinery – it has to be by far my favourite camp ground. I can't wait until DD#3 is 3.5 (2 yrs from now) so that we can begin family camping traditions. Glad to hear you had a great time!

  7. Nope camping still sucks in my opinions. When we found out we were having another boy I happily told Tobei I look forward to boys camping trips and the house all to myself. The closest you get me to camping is a cottage and even then it better be hotel worthy and have at least satellite TV.

  8. Oh Shash! This is awesome!
