I found myself today looking longingly at my neighbours garden, I’ve coveted their yard.

Our grass is green and lush and I’m just really thankful for that, some of my neighbours around here (new development) don’t even have that, their kids are literally playing in the dirt! But I miss flowers, colour, trees, dimension, fragrance…

I’ve never started a garden/flower area from scratch before, I have no idea what I’m doing. I know I’d like an area that smells wonderful and that changes at different times of the year and that don’t require too much maintenance. I go into a garden centre and get overwhelmed with the selection. I need to start by at least mapping out which area will be beds, and walkways and I’d love a water feature. My neighbour has a beautiful pond… there I go again!

Does anybody have any ideas/skills?

We live in southwestern Ontario if you need to know the zone. Here’s the outside of our house, taken before the grass arrived.

  6. Well if it’s any consolation, I’m now coveting your house… Family of 8 (well 6 now since the 2 eldest have left the nest, but still…) in a 3 bedroom house with NO extra living space (ie: den, family room… etc.)… I’ll trade you my grass for the house 😉

BTW, I bounced off of Rena’s Blog and landed here. Nice to meet you.
